Morocco - Feminist gathering: «For them, and for those who will come after us»
The Kif Mama Kif Baba association called a rally on 12 March 2013 in Casablanca to demand a change in the status of women in Morocco. Under the banner: «For them, and for those who will come after us», the association, joined by various collectives, has launched a call to demand several measures of the Marocian government in order to advance towards a larger one. equal rights for women and men.
Among the demands is the complete overhaul of the Moudawana, 19 years after the last reform. The organizations and collectives demand that the Family Code prohibit and penalize child marriage, remove outdated forms of divorce, take into account and value the work of women in the home, establish joint parental authority (guardianship, custody and joint responsibility), allow women to be witnesses and also implement equality in inheritance. They also call for the prohibition of polygamy and the recognition by law of marriages of a Moroccan woman with a non-convertible non-Muslim. Among the requests, we also find the creation of an effective protection against violence against women, and the fight against femicides, which includes the legalization of abortion as well as a revision of the Penal Code including the repeal of provisions that penalize the exercise of individual freedoms and a strengthening of the fight against pedocriminality.
